Tummy Tuck Dubai & Abu Dhabi
The tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is procedure that improves the contour of the belly region by removing extra skin and fat while tightening the muscles. This procedure is particularly good for patients who have had considerable weight loss after pregnancy or aging changes that result in abdominal laxity. A tummy tuck helps to restore a smoother, firmer abdominal profile by addressing issues that cannot be resolved with diet or exercise alone.
Why Choose a Tummy Tuck?
Excess abdominal skin, stubborn fat, and weakened abdominal muscles are common concerns for many people, especially after major weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or aging. These factors can lead to a protruding or sagging belly despite a healthy lifestyle. A tummy tuck is designed to:
- Remove Excess Skin and Fat: After pregnancy or weight loss, loose or hanging skin around the abdomen can cause frustration and low self-esteem, especially when it doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. Liposuction Dubai
- Restore Abdominal Muscle Tone: Pregnancy, significant weight loss, and aging can cause the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominis) to separate or weaken, it is called muscle diastasis, leading to a bulging stomach. A tummy tuck can tight these muscles to restore a flatter, more toned appearance, given the shape you had before the pregnancy/overweight.
- Improve Your Body Contour: By fixing abdominal wall problems, the tummy tuck can give you better proportions with the rest of your body, improving your aesthetic appearance and boosting your self-esteem.
Different Types of Tummy Tucks:
There are different types of tummy tuck procedures tailored to individual needs, which are determined based on the muscle separation, amount of fat, and extensions of the extra skin you have. The most common types include:
Full Tummy Tuck (Standard Abdominoplasty):
This is the most comprehensive form of abdominoplasty, typically recommended for patients with moderate to significant abdominal laxity. It involves:
- Liposuction 360 degrees ( front, lateral, upper, and lower back);
- A horizontal incision is made above the pubic area (below the c-section), which may extend from hip to hip;
- Excess skin and fat removal from the upper and lower tummy;
- Tightening of the abdominal muscles through a procedure called muscle plication, where the muscles are connected together to restore muscle tone and prevent bulging. In this case, we have developed a special technique called internal corset, which is more effective and has better results than the traditional technique;
- Belly button without scar in most of our patients. We prefer to recreate the belly button without scars, giving you a more natural look. For the other cases, we repositioned the belly button with an internal scar hidden so as not to be visible.
M.I.L.A - Minimally Invasive Lipo Abdominoplasty / Tummy tuck without scars:
Ideal for patients without sagging skin or minimal skin with few stretch marks. This procedure allows the patient to have the tummy tuck done without having the traditional scar for tummy tuck hip to hip:
- Liposuction 360 degrees ( front, lateral, upper, and lower back);
- No incisions are necessary. All the muscle diastasis correction (from the bottom to top) is done under video surgery by the same liposuction incisions;
- Excess skin and fat are removed, and full abdominal muscles are tightening from top to bottom;
- The belly button is usually unaffected in this procedure;
- This option results in a smaller scar and quicker recovery time. It is excellent for patients without laxity skin above the belly button.
Mini Tummy Tuck:
Ideal for patients with limited skin laxity below the belly button, the mini tummy tuck focuses on the lower abdomen:
- Liposuction 360 degrees ( front, lateral, upper, and lower back);
- A shorter incision is used, generally just above the pubic area, the same as a C-section;
- Excess skin and fat are removed, and full abdominal muscles are tightening from top to bottom;
- The belly button is usually unaffected in this procedure;
- This option results in a smaller scar and quicker recovery time. It is excellent for patients without laxity skin above the belly button.
Extended Tummy Tuck:
An extended tummy tuck is designed for patients who have more extensive skin sagging, often due to massive weight loss:
- Liposuction 360 degrees ( front, lateral, upper, and lower back);
- The incision is longer than a regular tummy tuck and may extend around the sides and back to address excess flank and hip skin.
- This procedure often includes more aggressive skin and fat removal and muscle tightening to achieve a smoother contour.
- The same techniques used for the belly button described before will be used in this case.
Tummy tuck 360 / Circumferential Abdominoplasty / Body Lift:
After significant weight loss/oscillation, when the patient has sagging skin around the whole body, this technique might be useful. A body lift removes excess skin around the abdomen, lateral, and back, providing a buttocks lift. This procedure involves:
- A circumferential incision around the body removes skin from the front, sides, and back.
- Extensive skin removal and muscle tightening to improve the appearance of the entire lower torso.
- This is a more complex procedure with a longer recovery time, but it can significantly enhance body contours, especially after massive weight loss.
Fleur-de-Lis Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck in Anchor:
Also performed after significant weight loss, when the patient has sagging not only from top to bottom but lateral to lateral. Important for those patients with laxity skin lateral-to-lateral on top of the belly button.
- It is the same as the regular tummy tuck plus the extra skin on the mid-tummy (above the belly button).
- Extensive skin removal and muscle tightening to improve the appearance of the entire tummy.
- Create a scar similar to a regular tummy tuck plus one in the middle line ( from the lower scar to the xiphoid).
Fleur-de-Lis Abdominoplasty + Tummy Tuck 360:
This procedure combines methods to remove excess skin from the middle tummy, lower tummy, sides, and dorsum. It is performed in cases after massive weight loss.
The Surgical Procedure Steps:
A tummy tuck is performed under G.A. (general anesthesia) in most of our patients. The procedure begins with marking the areas where incisions will be made, considering the skin laxity and the desired results. After anesthesia is administered, the surgeon will proceed as follows:
- Liposuction: Ususally includes a liposuction 360 degress performed with Vaser that includes the dorso, lateral e front. Other tecnhologies can be used here for a bettter outcome like plasma for skin tightening in case if necessary. We always perfom liposuction with power assisted devices which will make the fat extraction smooth, better, less traumatic and safer than old technique.
- Fat Transfer Guided by Ultrasound: the fat transfer can be performed to improve contour and restore the shape of the buttocks lost after pregnancy. We prefer to do the fat transfer using ultrasound guidance. The use of ultrasound is crucial for safety, as it allows us to accurately identify where the fat is injected. This reduces the chance of complications and enhances the results, thanks to the precision that ultrasound provides during the surgery.
- Rib Remodeling: This procedure is excellent for patients who have experienced rib cage enlargement due to pregnancy or being overweight, which can result in a lost waistline and contour. We perform a repositioning of the lowest ribs rather than their removal. Similar to rhinoplasty, rib remodeling involves only the repositioning of the lowest ribs without any incisions or removals.
- Incision and Skin Removal: The type and incision’s size will depend on the type of abdominoplasty type performed. In the full tummy tuck, a horizontal incision is made low across the abdomen, just above the pubic area. For the mini tummy tuck, the incision will be much smaller and only in the lower abdomen. For M.I.L.A, there will be no incisions.
- Muscle Tightening (Muscle Plication): The rectus abdominis muscles, which may have opened during pregnancy or weight gain, are sutured back together. We developed a special technique called the “internal corset,” which offers a more effective way to correct the muscles compared to traditional methods. This approach provides a better and more natural contour.
- Belly Button: In most tummy tuck procedures, we prefer to recreate the belly button without any scar. The belly button without a scar is a special technique that has more natural results and a better look than the scars around the same. For patients who are unable to achieve a scar-free outcome, we can hide the scars within the belly button. This strategy is crucial for ensuring a result that appears natural.
- Closing Incisions: The incisions are closed with surgical glue + internal and absorbable sutures for a better outcome and a thin scar, not visible in most of the cases after 18 months.
Recovery Process
The recovery from a tummy tuck depends on the procedure described before but typically involves:
- Initial Healing: Expect to stay in the hospital for one night after surgery. Patient discharge usually happens the next day.
- Pain Management: Post-operative pain is minimal, and you will be receiving pain medication to manage discomfort. Swelling and bruising are also expected but will gradually subside over time.
- Compression Garment: Typically, patients do not wear garments in the first few days after a tummy tuck. This allows you to feel more comfortable and experience less pain. A compression garment usually starts being used from 2 to 7 days after the surgery, depending on each individual case.
- Activity: 10 days to 14 days after surgery you can return to most of your activities like driving, work, and many others. Light exercises are allowed after 30 days and all types of exercises after 60 days.
- Follow-up Appointments: You will have follow-up visits with Dr. Paulo as much as necessary to be sure that everything is smooth and fine.
- Lymphatic drainage: we recommend to our patients to start the lymphatic drainage in the first days after procedure. Lymphatic drainage is similar to a massage but done with the proper technique by a specialist therapist, which will remove the toxins and extra swelling, reducing the chances of fibrosis and irregularities and giving you a better and smoother recovery. Some sessions will be necessary. Usually, 10 to 20 sessions are required
Results and Long-Term Care
The results of a tummy tuck generally are long-lasting, but they are affected by factors such as aging, significant weight fluctuations, or pregnancy.
Risks and Considerations
While tummy tucks are generally safe, some risks associated with the procedure exist, including infection, blood clots (thrombosis), bad scars/keloids, numbness/skin sensation alterations, asymmetry, or unsatisfactory aesthetic outcomes.
It is important to proceed with a consultation to understand the risks, benefits, and potential complications specific to your situation.
Ideal Candidates for a Tummy Tuck
The best for tummy tuck patients are:
- Extra skin/fat in the abdominal area that does not improve with proper diet/exercise.
- Have weak or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), often after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
- Stable weight and realistic expectations.
- Are non-smokers and in good overall health.
Women who are planning future pregnancies may want to hold the tummy tuck until they finish having children before undergoing the procedure, as pregnancy can reverse some of the changes achieved by a tummy tuck.
A tummy tuck can provide transformative results, offering a more sculpted, youthful abdomen and increased self-confidence.

When is a tummy tuck in Abu Dhabi indicated?
Abdominoplasty is an abdominal plastic surgery to remove excess skin in the region. It can be performed for men and women who want to correct different conditions, such as:
sagging: people with excess flaccidity skin in the abdomen that cannot be eliminated with methods such as diets, physical exercises, or other aesthetic procedures;
stretch marks: excess stretch marks in the abdomen region can also be eliminated with the procedure if it is associated with sagging skin;
Muscle diastasis: consists of the separation between the rectus muscles. Patients with weak muscles in the abdominal region can also undergo surgery to promote stabilization of the abdominal wall.
Although these situations are common in post-pregnancy patients, patients who underwent bariatric surgery or lost a lot of weight quickly also are affected.
Genetic factors are also related to a greater predisposition to skin accumulation and sagging skin in the abdominal region.
